Smoke plumes atop Canada Place caused by backup generator

Article content

There was activity at Canada Place Sunday afternoon when Edmonton Fire Rescue Services responded to an alarm at the building.

The fire department received a call about smoke coming from the top of Canada Place at around 5 p.m.

Six fire crews arrived at 5:04 p.m. and determined the smoke was coming from a backup generator.

The generator company was called in to shut it down. It will remain out of service until repaired.

Edmonton Fire spokesman Rowan Anderson said that there was no fire, no injuries and no smoke inhalation reported.
