A skydiver has died near the Westlock airport, police said Friday evening.
RCMP say it appears the person died while preparing for an event that was to held at the airport over the weekend.
Police said the skydiver crashed into a field east of Hayley Lake near the Westlock airport.
Officers were called around 1:40 p.m. Friday and emergency medical services and the fire department were at the scene. The death is not considered criminal and will be investigated by the Transportation Safety Board and Occupation Health and Safety.
Police said the dead man is 36 years old from Ontario but did not release his name pending notification of next of kin.
Const. Patrick Lambert said emergency medical services and the fire department were at the scene when police arrived and the victim was declared deceased.
“There’s a number of individuals at the Westlock airspace preparing for events this weekend, and it was during the landing aspect of the skydive that this individual became deceased,” he said.
Westlock is about 90 km north of Edmonton.
