Alberta’s top doctor will give an update on COVID-19 in the province on Friday afternoon.
On Thursday, Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced 130 new cases, bringing the total number of active cases to 1,415. The Edmonton Zone currently has 527 active cases, while the Calgary Zone remains the hardest hit with 639.
Hinshaw also announced that long-term care facilities will soon be able to decide whether residents need to quarantine after an outing based on the level of risk for COVID-19 exposure.
Under previous rules, residents would have to quarantine for 14 days after any overnight outing regardless of where they went while day trips did not require such measures. Under the new order, which takes effect in two weeks, facilities will assess risk level during any outing.
Hinshaw is scheduled to speak at 3:30 p.m. You can watch live here.
