Here’s why Kyle Rittenhouse, the teen shootingsuspect in Kenosha killings, is likely to get off

This is my conclusion as I emerge, blinking in the light, from the rabbit hole I’ve been down all week of self-defense law, jury-instruction language, charging documents and online, frame-by-frame analysis of the videos of the tragic shootings in Kenosha during street protests on Aug. 25. Rittenhouse, a 17-year-old from Antioch, Illinois, has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide, two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, attempted first-degree intentional homicide and possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18, in the shooting deaths of two protesters and the wounding of a third. The homicide charges carry a maximum prison sentence of 65 years.

Eric Zorn’s tone indicates that he is regretful about it. Let’s go far out on a limb and call Kyle Rittenhouse’s actions “vigilantism”. Still, if so, what makes his actions more illegal and worse morally than those of the violent and sometimes-armed rioters and looters? We live in an upside culture nowadays.

Kyle is a HERO! He went there to help people, he is an EMT. He can be seen in video offering help to anyone who was injured, on EITHER side. He was then attacked, and he acted in self defense. He had brought equipment with him for BOTH possible circumstances, to help the injured, OR to protect himself or others.

“it’s legal for civilians to openly carry military-style assault weapons in public spaces” “with a weapon of war slung across his back”
Big Lie – it is an assault weapon in appearance only. Assault weapons fire multiple rounds with a single trigger pull. Rittenhouse’s weapon does NOT. It is illegal for citizens to have true, military, automatic fire, assault weapons. This is a rabble rousing statement. Wisconsin law … bans minors from carrying guns. OK, valid point. This would be a Class A misdemeanor and given the intense scrutiny of the case and depending on the judge, could invoke a significant penalty. Big Lie “Did the teen willingly put himself in that fraught milieu and illegally, allegedly, risk a horrific escalation of that danger by carrying a gun on the scene?” If an adult had been on the scene and armed, he would have every right to be there and be armed. In each incident, Rittenhouse was pursued and assaulted. The last person to be shot, affiliated with the rest of the thugs who had attacked him, APPROACHED Rittenhouse with a visible weapon. It is entirely reasonable to assume he was a threat. If the thugs had left Rittenhouse alone, there would have been NO problems at all. The thugs were assembled illegally for illegal purposes. The thugs assaulted Rittenhouse. Other citizens in these riots who were unarmed have been severely beaten by the thugs. Let’s be real about WHO caused this, the thugs. If the Police/government were doing their jobs, they would have arrested armed and destructive thugs. Then it wouldn’t be necessary for citizens to stand up to protect property.

A brave teenager facing a violent howling mob of murderers and pedophiles. Stepping in at great risk of personal harm when the police fail to do their job. Why on earth is this a prosecutable act? Are we losing our collective minds??

In order to convict him they would have to show that you don’t have a right to self defense.

According to Ann Coulter: “The people he killed were: a convicted child molester and a convicted domestic violence repeat offender, both of whom had served time in prison. (It takes a lot to get prison time in America — especially if you’re white, right BLM?) The guy Rittenhouse shot in the arm had a firearms conviction and was coming at him with a gun.”

I understand his lawyers are pursuing a loophole that allows 16-17 year olds to carry rifles under hunting guidelines. But the one attorney admitted that portion of the law is “poorly drafted”. It’s already been shown he did not carry the gun across state lines, so that charge topples. The self-defense claim is evident on face. We’ll see.

..if he has even a halfway decent lawyer…all he has to do is make sure he gets at least ONE true American ( ie – a Trumpster) on the jury…no matter how many times they try the case there will never be a conviction

“Get off”? Kyle was there helping people until he was attacked. Then, he defended himself, and quite capably I might add. There should be no charge to “get off’ of. He’s more of a man than most of the males I know.

no matter what happens to the shooter, he made a major contribution to the entire marxist riots everywhere.
Until Rittenhouse shot the three, rioters/looters/bullies of the wo0rst kind have pushed everyone around, seemingly with impunity.
Those days are gone.
now those bulli8es will think about consequences, I would hope.
Now if the police start policing, instead of playing observor to the riots, things will calm down.

It is NOT illegal for citizens to own fully automatic weapons ! You merely have to fill out the appropriate voluminous ATF paperwork and pay the Feds the enormous fees involved, plus actually find one for sale. They are terribly expensive, if you can even find one for sale. I used to work at a gun store and one of our older employees owned several, which he would occasionally bring in to display and let some of us ex military types fire on our indoor range. He owned a 1913 machine gun with tripod, a Thompson sub machine gun from Attica State Prison and a fully auto AR in 9mm, among others, collected over a lifetime.

I would love to see the district attorney charged with malicious prosecution.
