Why Are Republicans Mispronouncing
Kamala Harris’ Name? Racism 43 replies

Since Kamala Harris was announced as Joe Biden’s pick for Vice President, the negative immediate media coverage of Harris has, as expected, been swift and vicious. She’s already been attacked by right-wing commenters, and called ‘nasty’ by the President. But another big, underlying trend has been far simpler: Harris’ first name has been regularly mispronounced, often intentionally by the likes of seasoned political commentators like Tucker Carlson. But Harris, who pronounces her first name “COMMA-luh” and not “kuh-MA-luh,” shouldn’t have to deal with this. She’s been in the political spotlight for years, including her own presidential run just a few

Kamala Harris, tapped on Tuesday as Joe Biden’s running mate, attended services at both a Black Baptist church and a Hindu temple growing up – an interfaith background that reflects her historic status as the first Black woman and woman of South Asian descent on a major-party presidential ticket. The 55-year-old first-term Democratic senator, whose name means “lotus” in the Sanskrit language, identifies as a Baptist as an adult and brought another faith into her life in 2014 when she married Douglas Emhoff, a Jewish attorney. Their wedding featured the breaking of a glass, a Jewish tradition, and Harris’ stepchildren

It’s not just a few Upper West Siders who are fleeing New York: Moving companies say they’re swamped with calls from residents looking to ditch the city — even though the COVID crisis has waned. One likely reason: The virus was but the last straw; New Yorkers are fed up with the shootings and lootings, homelessness on the streets, sub-par online schools, sky-high taxes and the sheer obliviousness of pols like Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo. On Sunday, The Post highlighted families who’ve given up on the Upper West Side — now teeming with junkies, the homeless, convicts and others — and are headed for greener pastures outside Gotham.

Major League Baseball teams are looking into introducing camera technology to ballparks that could detect whether or not fans are wearing masks in the stands. The software could also flag attendees who are wearing them improperly, like leaving their nose uncovered or dangling them around their neck. Several teams are in talks with Airspace Systems Inc, a California security firm with technology that can scan security footage for mask ‘hot spots.’ In trial runs, the Airspace system was able to clock mask use with over 80 percent accuracy.

If you had any doubt that hard-left ideologues run government school systems in many (most?) places, take a look at Fairfax County, Virginia’s most populous county, with over a million residents, one of the richest counties in the United States with an average household income well over one hundred thousand dollars. The educrats who run the Fairfax public schools have advised parents there not to hire tutors or organize informal homeschool “pods” to replace the shuttered schools because some parents cannot afford to do so, and that would be “unfair.”

Social Security was still paying benefits this year to a woman who died nearly 50 years ago, and her nephew had been cashing the checks, federal prosecutors said Tuesday, collecting a staggering $459,000 over the years.
The government also paid out a $1,200 coronavirus stimulus check this year to the woman, who according to records would have to have been 114 years old—the second-oldest person on Social Security. In actuality the woman, identified only as AV in court documents, died in Brooklyn in 1971. But the government began paying Social Security six years later in 1977, and she was listed

Presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s event with Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), his pick for vice president, was heavily delayed after the school they were using for the event in Wilmington, Delaware lost power on Wednesday. NBC reporter Mike Memoli told MSNBC the campaign had to use backup generators. “We understand from the pool reporter inside that there actually is a power outage in the area. You might even be able to hear the very noisy generator that kicked into action behind me,” he said. “I saw the lights flickering on and off a little bit. There have been severe

The great Peggy Lee song comes to mind: “Is that all there is?”Sen. Kamala Harris checks off two big boxes for 2020 Dems — gender and race. But the moment, if not the actual choice, feels underwhelming because of the amateurish way Joe Biden and his team let the process spin out of control. The drawn-out, overhyped vetting often made it seem as if the running mate would save the ticket. A month ago there were six finalists, then maybe 12.Some openly campaigned, with Stacey Abrams and Karen Bass enlisting supporters to speak to Biden directly. Susan Rice talked up what she saw as her qualifications on television

Celebrity activist Jamie Lee Curtis says she’s worried that President Trump’s supporters may steal the 2020 election by making off with United States Postal Service trucks. The “Halloween” star left Twitter users confused on Tuesday after peddling a conspiracy theory of enormous size and scope. “I swear, in broad daylight, the driver of the red truck had a red cap on with white letters,” she tweeted nearly 560,000 fans while attaching an image of a damaged USPS vehicle. “Conspiracy? Outright attempt at stealing the election by denying the access of the @USPS ? Let’s not let it happen! @JoeBiden.”

It’s official, presidential candidate Joe Biden has chosen California Senator Kamala Harris as his running mate. (Snip for tweet)But according to former Obama Senior Advisor David Axelrod, Harris wasn’t his top choice and politics pushed her into the position. “He reportedly clicked well with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, but she would not have fulfilled the desire of those who prioritized a candidate of color,” Axelrod wrote for CNN. “Whitmer, a White moderate pick, also would have raised questions among supporters of progressive champion Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, widely viewed after a lifetime of advocacy and a strong campaign for president as a tough, brilliant and capable policymaker.

Uber would likely shut down temporarily for several months if a court does not overturn a recent ruling requiring it to classify its drivers as full-time employees, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in an interview with Stephanie Ruhle Wednesday on MSNBC. “If the court doesn’t reconsider, then in California, it’s hard to believe we’ll be able to switch our model to full-time employment quickly,” Khosrowshahi said. Uber and rival Lyft both have about a week left to appeal a preliminary injunction granted by a California judge on Monday that will prohibit the companies from continuing to classify their drivers as independent

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) once made waves following an appearance on Ellen, where she laughed hysterically after joking about killing President Trump during a rapid-fire question session with host Ellen DeGeneres. At the time of the appearance, April 2018, Harris remained mum on her presidential aspirations but answered a series of amusing questions about her first celebrity crush, nicknames, and the most “rebellious” thing she did as a teen. Then DeGeneres asked, “If you had to be stuck in an elevator with either President Trump, Mike Pence, or Jeff Sessions, who would it be?”Harris looked away then responded, “Does one of us have to come out alive?”
