A 19-year-old Edmonton man has been charged in relation to a sexual assault in Leduc.
Leduc RCMP were alerted to a sexual assault in the community on Jan. 12 after a woman asked friends on Snapchat for a ride into Edmonton, police said in a Wednesday news release. Police began their investigation and found that a recently added friend agreed to drive her and picked her up.
The suspect drove the woman to the area of 50 Street and Black Gold Drive and parked. The man then sexually assaulted the woman inside the vehicle. He drove her into Edmonton where she got out and called the police.
Police said they conducted a “complex” investigation that included the use of a production order and DNA warrant.
Hamza Zahid, 19, of Edmonton has been charged with sexual assault. He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Leduc Provincial Court on Oct. 22.
