Edmonton homicide detectives probe shooting death of 32-year-old man

Edmonton police are investigating a homicide after a 32-year-old man died from gunshot wounds in hospital.

Downtown division officers were called to reports of a shooting at a multi-unit residence near 109 Avenue and 97 Street around 9:35 a.m. Wednesday. Deng Malith Deng, 32, was found at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound and was taken to hospital in serious, non-life-threatening injuries, police said in a news release said Friday.

Police said his condition began to deteriorate while he was in the hospital and he died from his injuries Wednesday evening.

An autopsy performed on Thursday confirmed Deng’s cause of death was a gunshot wound and the manner of death was a homicide.

The EPS Homicide Section is continuing to investigate. Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to contact police at 780-423-4567. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Deng’s death is the 20th confirmed homicide of 2020.
