This in from Sportsnet’s reporter extraordinaire Elliotte Friedman, news that the Arizona Coyotes might be considering moving Darcy Kuemper. “Even with an active goalie market, Darcy Kuemper is a very attractive piece thanks to his impressive playoff performance.”
-1. It’s a good time to be in the market for another goalie, as the Edmonton Oilers most certainly should be. The market is packed with talented options and Edmonton needs an upgrade at the position.
-2. There are no fewer than eight goalies on the market who were No. 1 goalies on their team last year, inlcuding Braden Holtby, Frederik Andersen, Corey Crawford, Matt Murray, Marc-Andre Fleury, Jakub Markstrom, Robin Lehner and Kuemper. Of those goalies, Lehner, Andersen and Markstrom are likely to be too pricey for Edmonton. Murray might be in the same boat. Fleury is in the same boat unless Vegas is willing to eat a major part of his salary. Kuemper, the newest name on the list? If the Oilers can move out some salary on defence, they’ll likely have enough money to fit in Kuemper under the cap. It’s also possible Arizona might retain some of his salary.
